Editorial Policy: How Medellín Basic Works
Last updated: Oct 19, 2026
Who is responsible
Medellín Basic is an independent publication based in the USA.
How pages are made
- We research every page from official sources: Cancillería (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores), Migración Colombia, DIAN, Banco de la República, the Alcaldía de Medellín, DANE and the US Department of State. When a page uses a non-government source, it says so next to the fact.
- Every rule is dated and linked. Each page shows a "Last verified" date, and key rules carry a "Rule last checked" line with a link to the official source.
- If the official source says something different from our page, the official source is right.
- Each page ends with a "What we couldn't confirm" box listing what we could not verify from an official source.
What we don't do
- No one on the site is presented as a lawyer, accountant or other expert, and pages carry no bylines.
- We don't answer individual case questions, review your documents, or file anything on your behalf. You file your own applications.
- The site provides general information only. It is not legal, tax, immigration, insurance or financial advice.
Paid links
The site has no paid or affiliate links. If we add any, each will be marked "(paid link)" and disclosed at the top of the page, as described in our Affiliate disclosure. Commissions never change what the rules say.
